Using Your Personal Data
As a Local Authority, Inverclyde Council collects holds and processes a considerable amount of information, including personal information about the citizens it serves, to allow it to provide services effectively.
The Council recognises that this information is important to the citizens and that it is responsible to the citizens for the information it holds about them. As such, it takes seriously its responsibilities to ensure that any personal information it collects and uses is done so proportionately, correctly and safely. This statement explains how Inverclyde Council uses any information you give to us, and the ways in which we protect your privacy. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Data Protection Act (linked at the bottom of this page)
Under the Data Protection Act we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. We take appropriate security measures to safeguard your data and apply security standards & controls to prevent any unauthorised access to it. When you use our online services:
We will tell you when we are collecting personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it. If you do not wish to provide such then you should not proceed to use the online service. You will not have to give us any information if you do not wish to do so but that may mean that you will not be able to use parts of the site or benefit from some or all of the online services that we offer. If you send us an e-mail message or complete an on-line form, we will use your e-mail/postal address and any information you provide to deal with and respond to your query or comments. This information may be disclosed to the appropriate office of the Council in order to deal with or respond to your message.
When we may collect information about you:
Whenever we do this we will inform you of what your information will be used for and to whom it will be disclosed. We may share non-personal statistical, or summary information with organisations working in partnership with us, such as health authorities or local councils.
